Why choose a Silent+ Pump?

Aspen Pumps is extending its offering of high-performance pumps with the launch of its new Silent+ range. The three new pumps have been designed to combine easy installation, energy efficiency and low-noise operation.

Aspen Managing Director Adrian Thompson says: “We developed the Silent+ range in response to our international customer base, which now covers seventy countries worldwide. End users are demanding quieter air conditioning in areas such as offices and meeting rooms. Silent+ pumps can help installers achieve that.”

The Silent+ Mini Lime and Silent+ Mini Orange pumps include a high-performance motor as well as an acoustic damper and anti-vibration tubing. Both are the quietest pumps in their class. Aspen’s Head Technical Engineer Bob Covey explains: “Our objective was to reduce vibration and pulsation caused by the piston in the pump, which is caused by the electric current. One of the main ways we have achieved this is by using a nylon derivative material for the body of the pump.”

This material, known as Zytel absorbs tiny amounts of water and swells. This holds the piston very tightly, reducing vibration. “We would not be able to achieve that with a metal-bodied pump,” adds Covey.

Thompson says: “It doesn’t matter how quiet a pump is, the crucial point is how the whole air conditioning unit performs. That is why we have taken a whole system approach to designing Silent+ pumps. We know our pumps operate quietly and efficiently when they are installed in a unit or trunking.”

Aspen has a reputation for innovation in product development, having led the market with its Mini pumps designed specifically for use where space is limited. The Silent+ range follows this trend, as Aspen also designed a patented sound-damping device for its Silent+ range. The new pumps are designed with installers in mind, and offer a plug-and-play connection for speedy installation. They also have clear reservoirs for easy inspection.

The third new pump, Silent+ Universal offers silent operation and high energy efficiency operation. “The Silent+ Universal is ideal for the hotel market, because this is a peristaltic pump that can be placed up to 5m away from the air conditioning unit – removing pump noise from the in-room system altogether,” says Thompson

Aspen has pioneered the use of peristaltic pumps for removal of condensate from air conditioning systems since 1992. The Silent+ Universal includes a synchronous motor and precision-engineered three-rotor roller to ensure reliable and quiet operation. These developments have reduced the pump’s energy use from 28W to 8W.
